After a morning of tasting the 2013 on the Right Bank my overriding impression is that this vintage is only good on the good terroir. It is also the vintage of Grand “famous architect’s” wineries – Angelus, Montrose and La Dominique!
Here are some of my favorites (I seemed to prefer St Emilion over Pomerol on he whole);
Salle de Dominican in St Emilion Syndicate Tasting of St Emilion, Pomerol and Fronsac
Grand Cru Classé: Grand Corbin, Grand Corbin D’Espagne, Marzelle, Fleur Cardinale, Fonplegade, Fonroque, Pressac, La Grangere,
Grand Cru: Rozier, Haut La Grace Dieu, Béard la Chapelle
Chateau Gazin Pomerol UGC Tasting
Clinet, La Conseillante, La Croix du Gay, Gazin, La Pointe
Château La Dominique ST Emilion UGC Tasting
Couspaude, La Dominique, Beasejour Becot, Clos Fourtet, Troplong Mondot, Canon La Gaffeliere, Figeac
The winery has been designed by Jean Nouvel and is covered on the outside by a shiny red colour. Its terrace is enormous and there is a restaurant serving traditional food for hundreds of covers it seems – very Terrance Conran. Wonderful view of Cheval Blanc, l’Evangile and La Conseillante. That is one way of looking down on your neighbours.
La Terrasse Rouge of Chateau La Dominique run by my favourite Bordeaux restaurant La Brasserie Bordelaise
