The beautiful mini château of Candale situated in the rolling hills of St Laurent des Combes opened a restaurant in the midst of its vineyards this summer. At last an opportunity to enjoy lunch (and dinner) amongst the vines in St Emilion. Daily menus are around 16€ and well prepared and presented by chef Cyrille.
The wines – The property was purchased in 2011 by sixth generation Jean-Louis Vicard, barrel-making family from the Charente (Cognac) – although they were able to make the wonderful 2010 vintage. Since the small vineyard has been extended to 13 hectares and new vinification techniques introduced such as vinification in the barrel under the eye of Stéphane Derenoncourt. The property lies on one of the most famous south facing côtes of St Emilion (home to Pavie, Larcisse Ducasse, Bellefont Belcier, Tertre Rôteboeuf) and is situated in the village of St Laurent des Combes.
There is also a new restaurant at Château Troplong Mondot nearby http://www.chateau-troplong-mondot.com/Reception
